The Secret to Loosing Weight Lies Within the Human Brain

Jan 18, 2007

Weight loss is truly a personal process which is not exclusive to man's physical self. The human brain and more specifically the human mind which controls man's animalistic physical body is the driving force behind all truly effective weight loss endeavors. So why do so many people fail miserably in their attempts at weight loss? You're probably thinking it's because of insufficient will-power or because they failed to remove so called "bad foods" from their diet. Those may seem like obvious reasons. Will power and a proper diet have always been linked to weight loss strategies. But do they work. Well, of course they do! - BUT…only for those people strong enough to give up everything they ever loved in order to achieve their desired weight. Don't fret though; hope still exists for the rest of us.

With the proper programming our mind can allow our body to loose weight without having to give-up our favorite foods and without having to undergo excessive exercise regimes. The first step is to truly love ourselves and to eliminate all negative thoughts regarding our weight. We are not pigs who can't control ourselves at the dinner table. We are valuable human beings on a powerful journey towards weight loss. And we are definitely getting there, simply because we can. Slowly but surely, our bodies will become what we've always wanted them to become. Great start… but you're probably thinking that positive thoughts alone aren't going to turn you into a thinner person. Don't worry, that's where step two comes into play.

Using Positive thoughts to Modify Poor Eating Habits

For most people, quitting something cold-turkey is extremely difficult. The thought of having to completely eliminate fried foods, sugar and cholesterol from our daily lives causes mental anguish in most of us. More than one of us has previously tried to go on a completely fat free diet but later flopped and ended up worse than before. Why? Because we then experienced a moment of weakness and ended up eating two weeks worth of the food we were forbidden to have in the first place. And we normally never even eat that much. The guilt we felt was also great.

Now eliminating the food we love, the cold turkey way, isn't for most of us. In fact, completely eliminating the food we love need not be for most of us either. The key to loosing weight is to continue to eat our normal foods but prior to doing so just eat something that's fat free with a very low calorie count (such as a salad or fresh fruit). This will fill part of our rumbling stomach before we jump on that high calorie main dish. I for example really love pizza. But before I order I try to eat an apple and a pear (sometimes I eat a carrot) and then I eat my beloved slice of Pepperoni and Cheese. And guess what, though I truly enjoy my slice of pizza I normally don't have enough room for a second slice whereas before, I used to eat at least two to three slices.

By using this strategy we can feel good about ourselves, eat the foods we enjoy the most and at the same time loose weight because our calorie intake is much lower. The will power we exert will also be a lot less cumbersome. We just have to say to ourselves that we are eating healthy "filling" foods prior to our main dish for our own good and because we love ourselves but that our hour of pleasure will still arrive.
